ESME HAMMOND, HOUSE BÁTHORY — KN carrier, active — offered himself to the house upon the activation of his gene; his motivations for doing so are sketchy and unclear, no one gets much of a reason beyond the fact that he supposedly owes a debt to his family, who are looked after by the house in return — his parents died when he was less than a year old, has lived with his aunt, uncle and cousins ever since and has always been treated as an unnecessary burden — had a troubled childhood and early teens (uncle openly disliked him, cousins bullied or ignored him, aunt occasionally offered very measly olive branches that esme never took), with a reputation for picking fights — mellowed unexpectedly around the age of sixteen, retreating into himself somewhat and becoming far quieter, gentler, though again, if there's a reason for this, esme keeps it close to his chest, and either way, it didn't last — snapped again around the age of twenty one, shortly before his gene activated; it seems that something happened between him and his family that carved a heck of a lot of guilt into him. feels incredibly responsibile for his family's well being and status, despite the fact that they've never done anything openly kind or good for him — joined báthory just before his twenty second birthday — grows hearts, predominantly, with slightly mixed results that fall just on the side of being regularly good enough for him to be kept around. fitted with a hexagonal glass plate across the chest for easy monitoring. can grow up to six or seven at a time, of mixed sizes and health, general aim is for him to grow three proper, full sized ones — has been cloned numerous times, though his clones never seem to survive past a single cycle of growing hearts and appear to be dependent on all the hearts they grow, wasting away quicker and quicker with every heart removed — is a consummate piece of shit; rude, sarcastic, tactless and cold. still picks fights, but usually for the benefit of his house. usually when his fights are paid to happen. is often loaned out for escort services, but only to those who're willing to deal with a handful — they pay for esme to be challenging — marketed as someone who can be broken down, but will fight tooth and nail the whole way — side effect of having his own hearts harvested, esme suffers intense periods of depression and melancholy. prone to hysterical crying fits and destructive behaviour that is usually only tempered by someone else's patience and some physical contact; is routinely furious throughout his emotional breakdowns, adding to the instability of his moods. — has an extremely strong attachment to val because of the above reason, so far refuses to let anyone else see him like that. shows his attachment in unusual ways, however, mostly by being even more terrible than usual, half the time. dresses his need to seek refuge with val as not wanting to get into more trouble by trashing his room again (or by trying to rip his one remaining heart out; that was a one time incident that's still liable to happen again, but would not be tolerated)
